Why I Love Google Sheets
Google Sheets is good enough.
I’ve noticed that business owners are often pushed toward specialized tools for every part of their operation. They’re told they need a database for everything and a full SaaS solution for each task. Google Sheets might not have all the bells and whistles or be fully “scalable,” but we often overlook the value of starting small and straightforward (especially for new or smaller businesses). “People over process” means getting your idea out there, and sometimes a simple spreadsheet is all you need to get started.
Google Sheets is also evolving. Recent improvements around tables make formulas easier to work with and data more visually approachable. I’m also a big fan of Google Apps Script, which can significantly extend what a spreadsheet can do when you have the skills and time. I’ve used it to enhance spreadsheets for clients and unlock functionality that would otherwise require a dedicated tool.
In the end, don’t let “best practice” slow down real progress. Start where you are, use what works, and upgrade only when the problem (not the trend!) demands it.
